Who This Service Is For
Who Is Family Therapy For?
Family therapy is for families who feel caught in patterns of conflict, distance, misunderstanding, or unhealthy interaction.
Sometimes the family knows exactly what the problem is: a teenager is struggling, parents cannot agree, siblings are constantly fighting, or a major transition has disrupted the family.
Other times, the family simply knows that something isn't working anymore.
Family therapy looks at the relationships and patterns surrounding the problem rather than assuming that one person is the entire problem.
Challenges Families May Be Facing
Families may seek therapy because of:
- Ongoing parent-child conflict
- Communication breakdown
- Parenting disagreements
- Behavioral concerns
- Family conflict and resentment
- Teen or child adjustment difficulties
- Divorce or separation
- Blended-family challenges
- Major life transitions
- Changes in family roles
- Grief or loss
- Chronic illness or significant medical stress
- Sibling conflict
- Difficulty establishing healthy boundaries
- Repeated cycles of criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, or escalation
The Unspoken Need
Families often don't simply want the conflict to stop.
They want to feel like a family again.
They want home to feel less tense, communication to feel safer, and family members to know that they can disagree without constantly hurting one another.
How We Help
Our Therapeutic Approach
My Marriage and Family Therapy training is grounded in understanding people within their relationships and larger family systems.
I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, family-systems approaches, CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and other tools depending on the family's needs.
Rather than simply identifying one person as "the problem," we look at the interactional patterns surrounding the concern. What happens before the conflict? How does each person respond? How does one person's reaction influence the next person's reaction?
Understanding those patterns can create opportunities for the family to respond differently.
What a Session Looks Like
Family therapy is collaborative and structured around the needs of the family.
Depending on the situation, sessions may involve the whole family, certain family members, or different combinations of people. We may slow down a recent conflict, work on communication, explore family roles, address emotional reactions, or practice a different way of responding.
The goal isn't to make everyone agree about everything. Healthy families can disagree. The goal is to create healthier ways of handling those differences.
Expertise in Family Therapy
Marriage and Family Therapy is specifically designed to understand problems in the context of relationships and family systems.
My approach combines that systemic perspective with Emotionally Focused Therapy and other evidence-based methods to help families understand the patterns that keep them stuck and develop healthier ways of relating.
Specific Issues We Address
Parent-Child Conflict
Parenting can become especially difficult when communication breaks down or every interaction becomes a power struggle. Family therapy can help parents and children understand the cycle they are caught in and develop more productive ways of communicating and responding.
Family Communication Problems
Families can become stuck in patterns of yelling, silence, criticism, defensiveness, or avoidance. Therapy provides a structured environment for slowing those interactions down and practicing healthier communication.
Parenting & Family Roles
Families change as children grow, parents age, responsibilities shift, and circumstances change. Therapy can help families clarify expectations, establish healthier boundaries, and adapt to new roles without losing connection.
Divorce, Separation & Family Transitions
Divorce and separation affect more than the couple involved. Family therapy can help family members navigate changing relationships, roles, routines, and emotions while supporting healthier adjustment.
Blended & Complex Families
Combining families can bring joy as well as significant challenges. Different parenting styles, loyalties, expectations, and family histories can create tension. Therapy can help families understand those dynamics and establish healthier patterns.
Family Stress, Grief & Major Life Changes
Serious illness, loss, relocation, financial stress, or other major changes can place enormous pressure on a family. Therapy can provide a place to process the impact while helping family members support one another more effectively.

- Reduce conflict and tension at home.
- Communicate without immediately escalating into arguments.

What to Expect
The First Session
We'll begin by understanding what brought your family to therapy and how each person experiences the situation.
We'll look at the history of the concern, current patterns, family relationships, and what each person hopes will be different.
Following Sessions
Depending on the family's needs, sessions may involve the entire family or selected family members. We may explore recent interactions, practice communication, address emotional patterns, or work on specific family goals.
How Long Are Sessions?
Family therapy sessions are 50 minutes.
How Do We Track Progress?
Progress may look different for every family. We may look for reduced conflict, improved communication, healthier boundaries, greater emotional responsiveness, or a greater ability to handle difficult situations together.
The goal is not to create a perfect family. It is to help your family develop healthier ways of navigating the inevitable challenges of family life.
